Berkshire Pork

The royal family used to keep a large Berkshire herd at Windsor Castle

We chose to raise Berkshire pigs because of their personality and the fact that they are renowned to produce great ham & bacon!  Who doesn't love bacon and yummy smoked pork!? Here is a comment about Berkshire pork from the "Little Pig Farm" website.

"Berkshire pigs provide true ‘heritage’ pork. They were recognized and prized for their eating
qualities over 300 years ago in England. They have the oldest recorded purebred swine pedigree
history in the U.S., starting in 1875."

We will have our first pork available from our little black and white porkers in early September.  Reserve your pork now as we only have a limited quantity and we will sell on a first come first serve basis.  At this point we are selling our Berkshire pork by the side (half pig), 10# & 20# sampler box.  Our pigs are raise on high quality non-medicated (no antibiotics or steroids), non-GM(Genetically Modified) feed.  They have plenty of space, toys such as logs and old plastic balls to play with and access to the outdoors 24 hrs a day.  They also receive an abundance of grass, garden and kitchen cast-offs.

Half hog: $4.30/# hanging weight, which should be around 90#.  This will yield you about 60-68# table ready pork depending on the cuts you choose with our butcher. This price includes all processing and delivery. If you choose to pick up at our small processor in New Glarus, WI or Lena, IL you will receive a $25 discount. Feel free to give us a call with questions if this is your first time placing a custom order for pork.  We want to make sure you get exactly what you want! Your side of pork will yield these approximate cut proportions: 15# ham or ham steak, 13# chops, 8# bacon, 5# Ribs, 12# pork roast, 10# ground pork, sausage or brats.

10# Pork Sampler: $65 total and includes approximately: 1 package of bacon, 1 sausage or brat package, 1 pork roast or ribs, 3-4 chops and 1 ham steak.

20# Pork Sampler: $125 total and includes: double the contents of the 10# sampler.

We will have a bit of pork available in November as we have 6 new piglets that arrived on my birthday (June 24th). 

If you have not had naturally raised Berkshire pork before, buckle up because you are in for a treat.

We will be making deliveries that include beef, chicken and/or pork to Madison, Platteville and Crystal Lake in early September.
